Stop Chasing Marketing Metrics. Start Measuring Results.

High click-through rates, low cost per lead, and impressive ROAS can make campaigns look successful. But are they actually driving business results?

Research comparing ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity revealed a common lesson: no single metric tells the whole story.

A better approach is to pair three metrics for every campaign:

  • Primary: Did you achieve your goal?
  • Diagnostic: What explains the results?
  • Guardrail: What could make those results misleading?

Practical B2B example: For a lead-generation campaign …

  • Track customer acquisition cost (CAC) to measure efficiency
  • Conversion rate to identify funnel problems
  • Qualified-lead rate to ensure you’re attracting prospects who could actually become customers. (Cheap leads mean little if nobody buys.)

Most importantly, distinguish revenue from profitability.

  • Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS) measures attributed revenue,
  • Return on Marketing Investment (ROMI) helps evaluate whether marketing generates incremental business value.

AI can accelerate research, but verifying sources and applying human judgment remain essential. The goal isn’t to make your metrics look good. It’s to make your marketing perform better.
